Ebola

Our wedding trip has been fraught with little surprises, and this latest update from the World Health Organization is no different.  After Mauritania we are hoping to drive down through Mali, Senegal, Guinea, possibly Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, and up the West Coast through Sierra Leone, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, The Gambia and back to Senegal. Unfortunately:

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has been notified by the Ministry of Health of Guinea of an outbreak of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in south eastern forested areas of Guinea. – See more at: http://www.interhealthworldwide.org/home/around-the-world/health-alerts/2014/march/27/ebola-outbreak-in-guinea/#sthash.eQ0cJRtq.dpuf

True be told, the flesh-eating Ebola has always been one of my favorite viruses, ever since hearing about it in the eighties.  The 90% fatality rate, death in 1-2 weeks, bleeding from mucous membrane, organ shutdown, and no standard cure – what’s not to love?

But don’t worry, Guinea is nowhere near Mauritania, so no excuses for not making it to the wedding.
